Well, although there are other beautiful gardens on Madeira Island, this one is not far behind. With an area of approximately
35000m2, 5 of which are landscaped. It is located about 3 km from the city center of Funchal. The garden is between 200 and 300 m altitude.
The garden offers visitors a unique visual experience. The colors of more than 2,500 exotic plants, some of which are on the way to extinction. With a panoramic view, this place is magical.
The desire to provide Madeira with a Botanical Garden was born, an ambition that came true in 1960.
Divided into five main areas, the Botanical Garden, whose main concern is the preservation of species, shows:
Inside, there is an elegant white house, with a completely green window covering, which contains a small museum, which exhibits collections of botany, geology and zoology, in antique wooden furniture.
The Botanical Garden is connected to the town of Babosas (Monte) by a cable car, which makes a very attractive tourist route that lasts 9 minutes.
My last visit to the botanical garden, which I visited with my wife and daughter, was not at all planned, but it turned out to be an afternoon well spent.
We start by parking the car at the bottom of the garden, which makes it very easy for those who decide to take a car (free parking).
At the entrance we bought the tickets that cost us 12 euros for me and my wife. As my daughters are not yet 6 years old, the ticket was free.
Soon after, we decided to visit the museum inside the botanical garden. There are many embalmed birds and mammals there. For those who like this type of animals I strongly advise you to visit.
After that, he was always walking along the beautiful paths of the garden where we can have a perception of how there are thousands of plants and flowers with beautiful colors in one place.
Here we spent a good amount of time with the family and enjoying the wonderful view of the city of Funchal.
